Preschool

4yo - 5yo

In our Preschool program, we start to prep our children for kindergarten! Our preschoolers learn basic math skills when counting, and identifying shapes and comparing different sizes. Our Preschool children begin to master their writing stills, and know how to write their names. The children will also begin to write words by sounding them out. During Circle Time, every child becomes familiar with basic literacy concepts such as knowing their letters, and recognizing some words. Pencils, crayons, markers, safety scissors, glue, and paintbrushes are all great tools for mastering fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Children love to talk about their artwork – it gives them practice with language and self-expression.

Communication and Language Development: TLC’s Preschool Program teaches activities that will promote early literacy skills, including alphabet letter recognition, phonics, and comprehension. Your child will be engrossed in a word-rich environment, surrounded by children's literature, which helps prepare him for kindergarten.

Social and Emotional Development: The Preschool Class is full of activities designed to increase children's independence, further developing their confidence and abilities. Teachers encourage the children to play a responsible role in the classroom. Children will learn to solve problems by using words.

Physical Skills: Gross motor skills include jumping, running, throwing and catching a ball, and climbing playground equipment. Children get designated dance time every day as part of the curriculum. Fine motor skills are vital to your child’s future writing skills. Preschoolers will strengthen fine motor skills with daily activity sheets, coloring time with various types of mediums, and stacking small blocks.

Cognitive Development: Cognitive skills are the foundation of learning and knowledge. The Preschool Class contains many activities designed to prepare your child for elementary school. Children are encouraged to retell stories in their own words, make comparisons, and explore and make discoveries.

Math and Science Skills Development: We focus on math and science readiness. Your child will practice important math skills, such as classifying, identifying shapes and numbers, and counting. Our teachers will provide many hands-on opportunities for the children to explore weather, plants, animals, sounds, textures, and other essential science topics.

Character Education: We believe it is important to introduce children to a wide variety of character traits. Values, such as pride or cooperation are introduced to your child throughout the program activities. Your child's teacher will encourage them to use positive speech as they are challenged with a new task. Children's artwork is always displayed so they can show off their hard work to their families. These activities promote pride and encourage children to embrace new challenges.
